Famous as the worlds largest brick manufacturers, the London Brick Company dates back to the turn of the century, and since the late 20’s, its major production plants were located in the Peterborough and Bedford areas. The Stewartby Brickworks near Bedford, was the company headquarters, and was claimed to be the largest brickworks in the world, producing a major proportion of the Company’s total capacity of 3 billion bricks a year. In the 60s era, LBC ran a fleet of more than 900 vehicles in the famous red livery and familiar circular logos. LBC absorbed a number of other brick manufacturers including Eastwood’s, Redland and Marston Valley. The Company had since been owned by the Hanson group.
